I think Grim might have been a legit cat originally but then a blot monster came to him and fused or something. Similar to how human ortho kept his sense enough to speak and remember Idia and tech pass codes, I think Grim might have keep his mind(-ish) and his cat behaviors, but because he wasn’t originally human, and it possibly being a lessor blot monster, Grim was affected differently.
I don’t think it’s same monster that got to human ortho (I think that is what human ortho got absorbed into), and possibly not even caught by Styx, but hiding from them so went to attach to grim.
(I also don’t want it to be too connected with Styx cause I feel that would give Idia, ortho, and ignihyde too much narrative spotlight as only secondary main characters)
I might just be totally misremembering that ortho gets “absorbed”, but it’s fun to think about at least
