Lilia’s secrets kind of remind me of Cater. We have the bigger secrets; Malleus’ parents, Silver’s parents, Lilia’s magic, his moving, his dismissal from the royal guard, etc. but we also have the many minor ones outlined in the video. We can infer that, like what he mused when Silver ran away, his secrecy is out of fear as to how those he cares about will react or whether the truth will hurt them.
I liken it to Cater with respect to Cater’s SSR vignette from the first Halloween event where he empathised with Cater in wanting to be on good terms with others rather than forge strong bonds, Lilia then stated, “The more precious a bond, the more pain it can inflict.”
The vignette has an overarching theme of bonds being formed unwittingly, a sentiment expressed by Lilia in their exchange. Cater scoffs at Lilia for implying he understood his plight and previously claiming he was wise to keep his distance; but then comforting his ‘sons’—under the impression that Lilia has lived in one place with one group his whole life. But Cater himself is quick to attend to his juniors’ aid the moment Dorm mother Trey calls—not unlike Lilia who was quick to respond to Sebek’s call.
Their similarities are best surmised in what Cater thought Lilia could never understand, helpless. They both feel helpless in the face of the pain that comes about from forging bonds and being responsible for how they change. I would say that Cater seems more concerned with being hurt, while Lilia seems concerned with his own pain and others—he’s lived long enough to see armies crumble under the power of bonds and the ability for bonds to transcend death.
